Egypt has a comparable explosion of social struggles, in many respects, with the last years of Franco.
pro-Western President, Hosni Mubarak, has 27 years controlling the country through repression and with regard to labor unions with something akin to vertical.
An average industrial wage is 250 Egyptian pounds, about 40 euros a month. Even with the Egyptian price represents a miserable salary.
labor conditions, social cuts and increases in the basic prices, lack of democracy, and, not least, the shameless collaboration of U.S. government and Israel in the slaughter of their Palestinian brothers and sisters, fill the glass made during the past year and a half.
In December 2006, 27,000 textile workers in Mahalla City went on strike, called the bonuses that the government had promised. The strike began when 3,000 workers in the garment factory came forward and took the other plants, asking their male colleagues would join the protest. Al Mahalla's victory unleashed a wave of fighting that continues to grow today.
Failure of the concessions made in the first strike in Mahalla brought more struggles in 2007, which added workers to their demands the dismissal of the "union committee" that the regime imposed on them by fraudulent elections. The fighting in Al Mahalla, like starting to happen in other sectors, the committee directed the workers themselves, elected assemblies, again, is very similar to the workers' commissions that came here under the Franco regime. Are emerging independent unions. The reason for this call is that this Sunday, April 6, male and female workers of Al Mahalla make another strike and occupation of the factory, as part of a struggle for a decent minimum wage (Sunday is working in countries Muslims).
